New Rules for SMP & Alabaster Ruling

The rules for SMP and the right to maternity leave changed with effect from April 2007 for babies due on or after that date. There are some signifi cant changes regarding leave and pay under the new rules. Due to the high volume of calls we have received on our Technical Helpdesk concerning the new rules, we have included this half day course in our spring schedule to give those employers who were unable to attend earlier courses the opportunity to come along and update their knowledge.

You are no doubt aware that as a result of the European Court’s decision in the case
of Alabaster v Woolwich plc, the rules on the calculation of SMP changed with effect from April 2005. The ruling requires employers to recalculate an employee’s SMP entitlement if she is due a pay increase over a period of 17 months or more. But many employers are still not applying the Alabaster ruling correctly.

Therefore by popular demand we have included this all important process into the
programme of this half day course.

Are you sure you are applying the rules correctly? Why not come along and see for
yourself!
